Santalahti-Onkiniemi area in
Tampere has held many smaller and bigger factories. It's old industrial area, already in the 1700's there were brick works and other mills. This furniture factory, or carpenter mill, was built after a brewery on the same place was shutdown. This was more than 100 years ago. The mill was later merged to
Visuvesi OY, which was the last user. It seems that the buildings got just too old, so the company built up a new (smaller) factory on the same area and practically left the old halls for everybody who's interested to visit. This was until summer 2001. That's when the place was eventually demolished.
During the twenty years of inactivity the manufacturing area became a must place for Finnish graffiti scene, local kids, paintballers and, apparently, RPG'ers. This was because owner of the land and adjacent operating factory didn't care for the real estates or that they were trespassed constantly. Everything was in very bad shape at the millennium time and some new fancy residential blocks were built close to the area, which may have boosted the will to get rid of the relic in a very easy to reach location and on a good piece of land.
