dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi01 November morning was dawning when our one man hit squad arrived to the site. This house has possibly been built to be the manager's house. Now it was unused but still in good shape and very nice looking.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi76 House seen from board warehouse's outdoor shelter.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi75 Same direction, a bit closer to the new steel halls where people worked. They would be directly to the left of the photographer.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi80 The stream Vääräkoski, which has it's own song, written by the local musician celebrity Topi Sorsakoski.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi71 Icy twig jungle hints that someone has cleaned the yard recently. Since the mill is not operational, such activity is really needed if they want to keep the place well sellable.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi77 This workshop building is strongly made and good conditioned. It waits for buyers.. It's a different thing then, who would want to buy this kind of building in a remote location and for what purpose.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi79 This side, where environment masks better had a few broken windows. Surprise.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi81 The view towards narrow end of pulping wing is beautiful. The wooden shack on the left hides a water power station, which is actually still operational.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi78 Here the old mill merges into a modernised wing with the board machines's dry end. Sudden change into steel walls looks ugly.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi02 Looking directly to the loading ramp where the previous shot was taken.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi03 There is an alley between the power station and pulping wing. These mechanical transmissions have supposedly driven one of the pulp grinders, that was never converted to electricity.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi74 We are now at the opposite side of the mill. This must be old log transportation road.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi07 Like any modern (or, in this case, recently used) pulp mill, this mill had an own waste water treatment process. It was performed here.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi73 The basin and chain type sludge scraper. Planks covering it look weak to say the least. I feel sorry for the maintenance men if they actually had to walk them.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi72 This pump was installed in a small basement of the operating room of the waste water basin.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi09 The board storage wing.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi08 Mixed materials and constructing phases. Modernisation of the machine's dry end has brought a large ventilation booth to the roof, and leca wall connects the wooden storage to the original machine hall.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi68 Courtyard towards the stream.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi10 Further at the yard.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi69 Smoke stack had been brutally removed! Shame..
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi11 The only section that wasn't closed was this, a few aquare meters' social premises. Not the most modern ones.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi13 Window of the dressing room.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi67 Architectural details in the narrow end of the machine wing.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi70 This side of pulping wing was masked by space taking logway and buffer storage.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi04 Looking closer.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi05 Other direction.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi06 Looking from the root.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi15 It looked like the logway would have had some security gaps, since it goes through the wall and everything. So a decision was made to climb up there, even though it was a bit too visible and also very icy. Here the trip up is already made.
dm-ahtari-vaarakoski_pahvi14 Finally up there, something that could be called a nasty joke was found. Door and logway's hole were blocked, and nailed to the door was a lock looking canister end. Access was not gained from here.
dm-r10-aht_vaarakoski32 The factory has been oil heated. Heating station is next to the logway and this tank, apparently stolen from the national railways, is in front of it.
dm-r10-aht_vaarakoski33 These reels were at the corner of a former board storage. If they are not pulping stones, then what the hell are they?
dm-r10-aht_vaarakoski34 These steel tubes of Ahlström remain unidentified.
