From the first visit (Retkelle 1997). The iron door leads to the social premises and office wing, it's also a good route to enter the factory. The brick shelter is a switching room.
The other end of the factory building, some sort of mixer machine in the background.
Inside the main hall, some big machine in the back. Raiztlin messing around with junk found from the place in 1997.
Violator sipping on GC inside the main factory hall in 1997. Behind, our impressive empty cans-collection, flashlites for real and the looong tunnel, which is shown later.
Rough machine and maintenance ladders.
A mystical machine.
Weird shoot indeed, the main hall. Something good about our _old_ camera was that it ate big batteries that supplied enough power for the flash, which made it possible to shoot pictures this bright on cheap film in complete darkness. In the center-background, a brick elevator.
The firing kiln bites a major part of the square meters available on bottom floor. It's surrounded on both sides by tunnels with several shutters.
I think these shutters are usually to remain closed, although they would be big enough for moving bricks in and out too.
The crypt-alike kiln, extreme darkness and the unique smell of brick dust create a special mood to the bottom floor.
In the main factory hall, exposed a cabinet full of electric stuff. Do they really still operate this???
Botch bricks and an extremely dusty maintenance room.
This is from an expansion wing that's connected to the main hall. This long storage tunnel was probably built later than the firing hall, because between these two premises there's capped wall with windows. A special X-Y dimension brick car that seems to use the same tracks as brick forklift. Also exit to lite at the end of the tunnel.
Now that's a brick forklift. Between our visits this heavy machine had moved from one place to another, which is very weird, considering the switching room is emptied, no electricity, the factory is abandoned... Or is it..?!
From the section that merges the kiln hall and tunnel wing. Note an indoor window in middle left.
Wearing sunglasses in a dark building is a great idea. This is near the official hall entrance.
We didn't try to start this Valmet, but it's most probably still in operation.
These kind of ladders connect the floors at both sides of the building.
Steep and dusty ladders, only way.
The upstairs levels are eerie, really. Dark and dusty, quite huge too.
At the upper floors of the building, there's not much but empty cooling tunnels and a small railway.
There are tens of these small rooms on the first and second floor used for cooling down the fresh bricks. You can still see some bricks in the back. The room always ends to a rotating "door", which leads outside. These doors look like boarded windows when looking from outside. The mini railway tracks for transportation can also be seen on the floor.
Kru-picture from the first or second floor, one of the numerous and identical cooling compartments.
The second floor is slightly different because it supports the roof.
At the front side is an outdoor shack for ready bricks.
