| SOK Urjalan Tiilitehdas, Urjala |
The (originally test fabrication) brick factory in Urjala was developed by SOK store. It was established in 1949. A brick manufacturing group Meltola-Keramia bought the factory in 1956 but went bankcrupt in 1958. The later phases of the factory are strongly connected to Torpo brick family from Tampere city. They've had some production here until recent years. Now the place has become a scrapyard, with a scrapping business occupying parts of the factory interiors too. However, the place continues to be a great "rural industry" relic with very exciting atmosphere.
Urjala was one of the first factories we ever went to photograph. Nowadays this site is very well documented on other UE-sites. Therefore, our Urjala-pages will be freezed to the state they were once left, without any changes in layout or texts. If you want to see good quality content, see one of the links at the bottom of the page. This page is a museum of what our site was like back in the days.
