| 1. Sawmill (the remains) |
This sight greeted us when getting to Ukkola... Just a little bit too late.
Papers from former giant owner lied among planks and other junk.
Chip collecting tower has a sheltered, human walkable transport belt passage, which gives it some look of a mining building.
The tower hasn't been in collapsing danger so they saved it, but what will happen in future?
Chip tower's emptying hatches. A highly similar installation can be found atleast from Kyyveden Saha (which is operational).
Name seems to have been compact Ukkola Oy somewhere in the past.
Typical chip storage text.
This is what's left of the sawmill, dimension sorting wing.
Notes warning about danger of collapsing roof can be found at the entrance. The knowledge of roof's weak condition came apparently as a surprise, because just two years before demolition the sawmill was in full effect and the company had big plans for the future.
Sorting wing's basement contains not much of anything interesting.
Mud has covered everything here.
Sorting line to one direction..
And other direction. Seems that the ground has moved "a bit" since the line was built.
This long waste conveyor goes next to the sawmill, towards the sawing frames.
Primitive safety equipment.
Fire hydrant well in the bush.
Relays.
Total of 4 sawing frames stand surrounded by junk. If only the demolition had been delayed a bit more..
They are products of Karhula.
Beltwheel's central has not gathered rust - it's been used until 2004.
Sorted scrap; wiring boxes, cables, roof steel sheets, machine covers
Foundations of a log crane.
Log measuring and sorting was located here.
Measuring equipment has been sold away.
Very empty here.
