Kukkapää sawmill ruins, Sulkava
colourline

These ruins are located in deep East of our country, in this small county known mostly of it's annual rowing contest. Rauma-Repola owned also this sawmill, until ceasing in 1951. It's been a long time and only ruins remind now of the medium sized facility, but there is something eyes can't see that's still around. The Rauhaniemi area is important clean water resource for Sulkava county, but the water intaking station here has been off use due to toxics in the water. Source is naturally the sawmill and notorious KY-5, the blue stain suppression chemical. It was nice thing to notice that recent cleaning of the sawmill's soil hasn't wiped off the ruins of power station and sawmill.

dm-slk-kukkis1 Not any modest power station end looks towards the lake from a small hilltop. Looks nice, even though something is definitely missing.
dm-slk-kukkis2 These have possibly been originally window holes.
dm-slk-kukkis3 This ruin is not in danger to be demolished any time soon. It's now sheltering some stuff related to nearby rent cottages. The cottage entrepreneur has torn away the weakest parts of the power station and replaced them with leca brick construction of same shape. The extension doesn't look very nice, but atleast it has arc roof like the original.
dm-slk-kukkis4 There are still even sawmill ruins, although soil has been cleaned. There are many foundations around the yard.
