| 2. Barracks |
Looking to the middle of the military area.
This is most likely the canteen and PX.
Roof grows moss also here.
Young trees are already reaching up from the ground. After some decades the place will be woods again.
This biggest barrack must have accommodated NCO trainees. It doesn't look very big, but a brigade like JR 7 has probably had quite a bunch of NCO's trained at a time.
Same subject other direction.
Barrack seen from the street side.
The mound in front of the barrack holds a memorial stone telling brief history of this place as an army base.
Buildings are protected such that windows are boarded. Of course some boardings are always missing, so many houses can be entered. Some boardings have been renewed, and because of our principles with ripping old wooden houses, some couldn't be entered.
Narrow end of the barrack.

These various writings and drawings are gathered from the buildings. I'm not sure if they tell more about the minds of people from Mikkeli, or about minds of people who visit places like this. Judge for yourself. Some are in english, some in finnish and some in both.

Upper storey of the big barrack. First time ever that during our expeditions we've encountered other explorers (not meaning writers, kids smashing stuff etc) occurred here. This guy was some 30-40 years old, and he was here just to check the place out.
The building has last accommodated long-term patients. What kind of patients is a bit unclear. They've dwelled in these rooms.
Someone or something has gone through every single door inside the building. Perhaps they've been left locked, and curiosity has driven somebody to mass-smashing operation. The locks are typical apartment type so that they can be opened from inside, for instance through a hole like this.
Both storeys have a kitchen. Dwellers have apparently lived quite independently here, for example they've cooked their own food.
Lockers for food supplies, what else.
The fridge is ancient, so this would mean the kitchen has been unused for quite long.
View outside is nice anyway. A suicide-route into and out of the house goes through this window. What makes it suicidal is the condition of the roof.
