| 1. The area |
Depending on from which direction you come to the area, you may bypass the famous battlefield of Porrassalmi. This two days' struggle between Russia and Sweden has given name to several streets, shops, businesses etc. in the city.
In addition to the map and history plate, the battle place has a memorial stone.
Approaching the military area in autumn takes one through beautiful countryside.
Next to the military area is another bleaky, yet interesting relic - an ancient burial ground. This memorial was erected by the neighboring army unit.
"Kalmiston rauhassa nukkuvat täällä sukupolvet menneet hiljaista yötään, siunaamme heitä, siunaamme työtään"
Deciduous trees make the area very colourful.
One former entrance gate, missing the gate itself. However, there's the drawing.
This cleaning equipment has probably been installed for hospital dwellers. Anyway it's quite aged already.
October sun and birches.
The military area is crossed by one drivable road. One barrack and one canteen are in the middle. Smaller houses, apparently for officer accommodation, surround them.
Moss growing roof of the red shed.
Inside the shed, not firewood, but empty mustard bottles??
One more "beautiful autumn" photo attempt.
