| Sawmill of Sotka (OTK), Hämeenlinna |
OTK (short for Osuustukkukauppa) was a cooperative wholesaler established when Finland's autonomy became independent of Russia in 1917. OTK was a store with diversified activities and numerous factories, including the match factory in Tampere and original nail factory in Kylmäkoski which are included in our 'abandoned factories' section. OTK's subsidiary OTK:n Puu OY operated this sawmill in Kantola, east of central Hämeenlinna since 1947. The subsidiary was later renamed to Sotka, which, unlike OTK itself, is still today a well known brand and operating firm. The same subsidiary was also the last user of the sawmill in Varikonniemi, Hämeenlinna which is included in our 'abandoned sawmills' section.
Sotka's area comprises ruins of the sawmill, timber yards, a wood product (furniture) factory, various other constructions and a power station. The last mentioned is introduced in the 'power stations' section, so no further words about it here. The furniture manufacturing buildings have new users like car repairers, se they're not empty, but remains of the sawmill are all totally disused.
A special curiosity worth mentioning are the four Towers behind wood yards. Check out the mpeg cut and page one.
