The cooperative store Osuuskunta Satakunnan karjakeskus r.l was formed in Pori, 1919 by local cattle farmers. Industrial activity was modest in the start. In 1921, the store bought premises of a former dairy in a district heraldingly named Karjaranta (cattle strand). Small-scale meat production started. In 1938, the store's name was changed to Satakunnan Osuusteurastamo, abbreviated SOT.

Economic recession in 1930's and war caused years of delay for the long-time planned expansion project of the meat processing plant. Eventually in 1952, the new slaughterhouse with all modern departments was finished in Karjaranta. The new plant, designed in Denmark, facilitated a remarkable decrease in degree of refining the meat, so it was in fact much more than a butching site. Here, during the years, they developed and produced all kinds of sausages, hams, etc. SOT also developed a new grill food, which is nowadays enjoyed all around the country: Porilainen.

In 1972, the swollen meat producer merged with Hämeen Osuusteurastamo (HOT) to form Satahämeen Osuusteurastamo, still abbreviated SOT. But competition got stronger and stronger and SOT wasn't big enough to cope independently in the long run. In 1993, it merged to Lounais-Suomen Osuusteurastamo (LSO), in time when the country's economy was deeply troubled. Shortly after this, as a rationalisation move, the plant in Pori was closed. The smaller Tampere plant, heritage of HOT, is still today operational (but won't be for very long).

The meat plant in Karjaranta was very large, and provided premises for many users during the next decade to come. A design competition was kept to innovate new forms of use for the buildings, which were located excellently near the city central and directly by the river, but it was all for nothing. The massive slaughterhouse went down during the winter 2005-2006. Several explorers (out of who one informed also us about this place) are known to have visited the place before everything was gone, so at least a lot of visual material is left as a legacy.
