| 4. The Power Plant |
The cool power station. Take note the hole in the wall in top right corner, probably fuel conveyor was there.
Because the plant was well secured on 1999 visit, we first tried to enter through the chimney. We also did get into the smoke duct by removing the cast iron shutter from root of the stack.
After some crawling in the smoke channel comes this high fall. It is just climbable without any extra equipment. The hole in the wall must lead to the boiler, but it's covered by a heavy iron sheet shutter we could not move.
We eventually got in using some mild violence. After climbing through a window, we ended up here in the control room. Texts of the gauges are in Swedish only since Ekenäs is "two language" area. Practically it means that many only speak swedish.
The control panels from the other side.
Low voltage switching cabins in the control room. Back in the days this wasn't locked well, that's why the graffiti.
High voltage area, transforming and switching in this tiny room.
Generator pipes, wall of the steam boiler.
Soot cleaning doors of the boiler in the basement level.
The medium size boiler.
Gauges at the fuel feeding corner.
Very cool doors/shutters of the boiler, the fuel feed area. Casted in Helsinki, Finland under licence from Babcock & Wilcox, London England.
The fuel area, wood chips flowed from the buffer storage behind the shutters.
Pressure cooker and stairs.
Watch out!
There's a small attic kind of room just below the roof. Fuel came in from here. The front yard can be seen from a bit different point of view through the infeed hole.
Side shutters of the boiler and usual power plant stuff. Last picture from Retki III, we simply ran out of film.
