| 4. The Outdoor |

This time we had no problem at all in parking. The city offered a great parking facility in nearby so we didn't have to leave the car in somewhere suspicious place. From there we just had to go around the bay, avoiding the fences and to the factory. This view from the path is somewhat dreary.
>From the direction where we entered, the front side corner.
Plywood production side shot from log pond and it's remaining conveyor constructions.
Same subject from other direction. The concrete beams in the front are parts of the log pond.
Plywood everywhere, what else. Notice at the left corner a booth of the ironball firm.
Other direction doesn't provide better access either. We liked to stick to to this of the factory, because the other sides were either next to a functioning factory (Junttan), it's loading yard or a path populated by joggers, bicyclers and dog owners. This side was the most peaceful one for any breaking activity.
Raiztlin preparing our equipment. With decent tools it would've taken maybe two minutes to get in, without them it took a bit more.
When owned by the bankcruptcy estate, the buildings were left to decay. City of Kuopio bought the land a few years ago and did some minimal things to improve security at the area, like placing these danger signs. Now it is certainly clear to everybody who should accidentally get to the wrong side of the fences that it might be dangerous to go under falling concrete beams.
Fire hazard was obvious at tha area. Especially bacause the mills had actually burned down to ground in late 1940's. All the existing buildings were built after the fire.
The log pond. Incoming logs were kept here for days in lukewarm water before the conveyors would take them inside for veneering. Now the pond grows weeds and even small trees. The pond had probably had a roof covering it for more economic functioning, but there were no traces of it left.
With caution we dared to check this side out too. This is shot from Junttan's yard and some workers drove around so we didn't spend very much time there.
Another corner at the Junttan side.
Same place. A quite weird sight is the the booth which hangs in the air, attached to second floor.
Wider view from the parking lots of Junttan. The storage courtyard and loading platforms are to the left, factory to the right. The chipboardmill has been to the right of where this was shot.
The front gates are inviting, but the formerly mentioned jogging path goes just by the gates so it's not very peceful here either.
This map at the gate was a nice find, we instantly got an overview of the area. The big building marked with 'B' is now replaced by Junttan. All the other stuff was still present at our visiting time.
