Sawmill in Sahanniemi/Sahanlahti, Jaala
colourline

Little is known about this target. To the world wide web it is unknown. When visiting, we only found ruins. It seems that the industrial facility in Sahanlahti or Sahanniemi (which ever way you want it), not far from the central of tiny municipality of Jaala in the heart of our wood industry main region, was a smallish, basic two-framesaw trade sawmill. Rest is up to guessing.

dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi08 Concrete foundations of something next to the late sawmill. It was hard to determine anything more accurate.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi01 There was this one buiding which wasn't ruined. Most probably having served as a garage for the sawmill's trucks, this building is now a support center of local fishermen. The sauna wing had also accommodation stuff like beds and blankets, who used them remains unknown.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi03 Surprisingly new year marking was found cast in the foundations. If this is when the last construction phase was finished, the sawmill can't have operated very long before being destroyed. Probable cause for such total and quick disappearance is fire.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi02 Foundations for sawing machines. They seem to have been small framesaws.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi04 Behind, a nice view to the lake. The place is quite idyllic and surprisingly silent.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi05 What was founded on these three narrow blocks in also very unclear.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi06 Next morning and one more shot.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi12 There is an asphalted area in the middle of bush that must have been log storaging and transportation area.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi13 The area has been cleaned exceptionally well. There very very few items that didn't belong there by nature and this rusty thing was one those few.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi09 It was surprising to find also a good conditioned two-family house totally unused. It was summer and holiday time at it's best, but no-one was there, nor seemed to have been for a while.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi10 Since the door was open we entered, and it turned out the interior kept what exterior promised. It was in good condition but unused for some reason.
dm-r9-jaa_sahaniemi11 One thing that the visit revealed was read in this article. It teels that the sawmill area has been a camping place where they have held atleast midsummer parties. After sawmilling ended, I would presume. A shame the article didn't have a year marking in the date.
