| Ruins of The Rutava Brick Factory and Mill, Vampula |
It's always good to keep ya eyes open while driving somewhere you don't go to often. We always do, but also the good visibility on sunny weather helped us in July 2001, when we found these ruins after catching a glimpse of a smoke stack in the distance while driving south. We drove closer and it turned out to be two curiosities actually. Vampula is the pig capitol of Finland. It's rural area so it is not surprising that the little industry they've had is also strongly connected to farming. The targets turned out to be a destroyed brick factory and a water powered mill-saw.
Neither of these two plants is actually used, but the mill's yard was occupied by a man and he had a chainsaw, so we thought it would be healthier not to go and try open the doors of the mill and sawmill. The brick works are just ruins, so they could be checked without bothering anybody.
