North of the city central looms a massive thing... That's the Raunistula feed mill.
The industrial area is more than the feed mill; the red brick textile mill Barker will soon go through conversion to something. A newer white large hall is between these older buildings.
View from the street: extension silos made of steel dominate this side.
This, not exactly beautiful view especially in this condition opens towards the village-like Raunistula housing area.
Trucks have unloaded their grain at this spot since 1970's, when this extension was built. Earlier transport method was freight trains.
Obviously the slide doors have moved up since first taggings.
Something that catches an eye are the silos, which are not quite typical. They're checkered, it seems. Why?
Every each checker is a steel sheet and they've been attached to each other with tens of thousands of bolts to form a silo.
The silos again.
Going anti-clockwise takes to the large feed storage. It has been the scene of many arsons, or practically matchstick games which ran out of hand.
This side is extremely graffitied.
The blind tracks have led near this loading platform, but installations like this look quite weak to have handled daily grain flow into the mill. Well, so mote it be.
The feed storage's roof has skylights..
..and vegetation. Some of the fires must have damaged the roof to this state.
The mill looks perhaps best from South, when the original 30 silos show off most.
One track stopper is still around, but the actual tracks have been removed.
Going around the corner, some container in the bush.
Going around the next corner takes back to the this side. Early morning sun glows nicely on the rusting steel.
The mill, a concretic example of what keen vandals are capable of doing to a quite new and good conditioned building in short time.
A slum alley? Actually this is on the roof between the mill and steel silos. After another fire in 2004 and some weak re-securing actions, the roof provided an alternative access into the building. That was, until someone ripped the doors open again.
Oh yeah. Everything smashed. But what is that rope doing hanging from the top window?? No-one can't possibly have used it for climbing, no?
Catwalk straight above the photographer provides access to the top of the steel silos.
