| 6. Piili-Haapamäki |
Continuing East, the last 20 kilometers are mostly in better shape thanks to different soil type.
Here we've changed to territory of the city of Keuruu and province of Keski-Suomi. The station is Piili. The station building is in excellent condition.
Piili's Westen point.
This blind track starting from Piili has been removed. After some years it will be hard to find the line.
Soon after the station there's a curve and speed limit only applicable to Dv12's.
Old inter-station communication line is mostly vanished, but in many places near the tracks you can find some remaining poles, wire and insulators.
Great, some vegetation. A draisine with >100 kilograms of moving mass and only one driving wheel has problems in such places, especially when the track ascends.
Ylä-Kolkki, shortly after Piili has also a curve with speed limit. This time it's only for Dr13's.
Km 503 in the woods, shortly before Yltiä, the last station before Haapamäki.
We're approaching Haapamäki, a good reason to make some whistle.
Quite many nails are missing.
There's still a bridge to cross..
A small bridge this time.
All of the sudden, the lost world merges into operational railway. First sign of modern time is the new signal of Hpk-Sk route section.
Km 514, welcome to Haapamäki, one of the ex-great stations of Finland's network.
Suddenly also the rails changed to heavier ones. Our draisine was tuned for K30 rails, so it started making some noise after this switching.
A Stop-mark cut the motion. We didn't have the phone number to traffic controller who could've given the permission to bypass the mark (and I doubt the permission would've been given anyway), so last few hundred meters were completed on foot.
We seem to have some wooden Eims coaches here.
Rotting slowly..
Haapamäki train yard starts, and we turn back. The trip is in halfway.
Couldn't leave this small-scale sawmill unnoticed, since it has one obviously old and unused brick building at the yard. The thing can be seen from the last bridge before Haapamäki.
