dm-svl-pohjolanpurku27 This end was next to the local Kingdom Hall, which was also the only possible place in nearby to park the vehicle. Whose idea was not to plywood the upper windows?
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku28 The "Pääskylahti projects" (10th district) were cheaply made, board capped wooden houses. Their age must have been atleast 50 years.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku02 Kitchen of the first apartment on the upper floor. It looked nicer than what could have been expected. It was winter, and outside there were footsteps leading to fire ladders that had to be climbed to get in here. Therefore it was especially nice to find out that nobody was using the place for dwelling, atleast not at the very moment.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku01 Not much for recycle use here.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku03 View from the kitchen shows that surrounding area is dedicated for detached houses. Their residents started occupying the street on their morning walks right after 6AM, although it was saturday and everything.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku04 I naturally thought this was something left from the last resident that would inform his mates that he's not around right now. But then, if I had gone to the sauna of this house (which I didn't), would he have been there, possibly waiting with an axe? (!!) Just a thought, ya'kno I've seen some movies..
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku05 No name, but a polemical sticker on the door of this residence.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku07 As everyday life as it can get. Booze, baby food and iron.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku08 The blue wooden staircase. Having never lived in such a house I can only imagine what it would be like to try to sleep on weekend evenings in one of the flats, and all your junkie neighbor's buddies would come for a visit and walk the stairs every five minutes.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku06 Taking a quick look at the attic. People had left pretty much stuff there. Most of it was ordinary junk like blown television sets, broken VCR's and sofas, but the old school books and essay notebooks were more interesting.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku09 Living room of flat on the lower floor. The flats were all 1 room and kitchen, 32 square meters and there were two on every landing, which makes eight flats and 256 sqm per house.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku10 Proletars of Etelä-Savo look towards future.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku11 This kitchen looked still quite okay..
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku12 ..But this one had had some serious drunks visiting. Or then they had really lived here. Anyway, the number of bottles and emptied sixpacks around the flat was remarkable.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku13 Paint had peeled rapidly after heating was shut off.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku14 Owners/users of this bed must have had sense for good humor.. Judging from the signplate attached to the bed.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku15 Cellar was dark as f--- and quite scary I must say.
dm-svl-pohjolanpurku16 For some reason, there were several cans of the Nobel awarded Finnish chemical invention in the cellar.
