Back To Several Places In Finland
2. The Embassy of Republic of Iraq , Kulosaari/Helsinki
colourline

In early 2001, there was a strange report on evening news. A group of political youth activists had occupied an empty building belonging to the embassy of the republic of Iraq, in a luxury neighborhood of our capitol. Iraq's new embassy stands empty on another side of the street, but the activists took over the old building which hasn't been used for anything for a couple of decades. Because we thought the news was kind of funny we went there later the same year to check the place out.

This house is what they took over. The police soon emptied the place, but the activists got lots of publicity for their subject because the event was reported on every major tv-station in country so they probably succeeded in the mission.
The security is not very good, for example windows are not even boarded.
Same corner.
This piece of oriental architecture looks like it was misplaced a few thousand kilometers too north, anyway, it's the newer embassy building which hasn't had an embassador either since the Persian gulf crisis.
