Municipality of Paltamo is small, but would doubtlessly be a lot smaller if the railways hadn't been around since 1920's. In addition to Kontiomäki, a railway junction station, there have been a few other stations in this county of about 4000 citizens.

Many of the railway structures here are no longer used in the 21st century. Because we're speaking of a bit newer railway lines, there are no greatly valuable old buildings to protect here. Thus, some unused buildings have already been demolished, some are just waiting for it. This page is a quick look to what there was left in spring 2007.
