| Vanajan Mylly, Hämeenlinna |
Construction works of sc. Vanajan Mylly (meaning it's a grain mill by the lake Vanaja) were finished in 1956. Developer was the cooperative store OTK. Later, as cooperative industry was reformed SOK and OTK's successor EKA formed Me¡ra which continued milling. In the beginning of last recession the mill was passed to it's last owner, that being Ra¡sio Oy and their mill division Mel¡a.
The mill produced typical grain products, like flours, but also feeds and other animal foods. In 2001, things had come to the point that the owner announced the mill would be shutdown. Ironically the mill was closed for good around May the 1st, the labour celebration day. Only about 20 people lost their job, but at best times there had been around a hundred employees.
We didn't waste time with checking the place out. It had been closed for only some weeks, but there was no-one around. Recently, new firms have taken back sections of the mill complex, which is large, so it should not be considered unused nor abandoned.
