Sotka, the wood subsection of OTK cooperative store had a smallish sawmill in the Liuna village near the central of Joroinen between 1925 and 1988. The sawmill was demolished some.... anyway too long time ago, so there wasn't very much to see in 2003. Here are pictures of some remaining things at the sawmill area.

Former sawmill area is neighbored by a home for the elderly - which by the way is unused (wink, work in progress...). This ancient sign warning of log trains is still by the road. |

Strangely the firefighting infrastructure remained at the area, even though everything else had been cleared well. I can't see how they could be utilised in future home building, since they weren't even connected to the normal water network. |

The pumphouse of sawmill was located by a stream. Why it was not demolished is another mystery, as it was totally unused like the sawmill had been. |

I'm not an infiltrator, but doors like this.. They just have to be opened. Even if the people bypassing the pumphouse on their morning walk looked a bit despising. |

Shutter valve inside the pumphouse, which was well insulated. If only the homeless of Helsinki knew of such places.. This kind of booth would beat dwelling under a rowboat (botski) 10-0. It could be kept warm even in winter, and would have very little disturbance. |

Pumphouse's maintenance instructions, possibly directly from the central management of OTK. There's an interesting thing to note here: the title "koeistus" has been a word officially recommended by the Finnish language planning department. It is supposed to replace the Anglistic loan word "testaus", but this is the first place I've ever seen it written to. So even if OTK didn't understand anything about business, they did know how to speak finnish Finnish! |
