| $tora-En$o Koski-Timber, Hämeenkoski |
A birch sawmill, Koski-Timber was the biggest employer in the Hämeenkoski region. It was owned by Ens0, one of our forest giants for the whole period of some 50 years it got to operate. The sawing building burned completely in September 2002, and around a half years later it was announced a new facility would not be built. Over 70 people lost their job, which is not a big number, but still about 3% of the town's population and naturally much higher percentage of the working aged there.
They have sought new users for departments that did not burn, since they are still perfectly operatable. In summer 2003 however, they hadn't yet found an industrial user for the place. The result? We went to see the place. Lights were lit, air circulation functioned as usual and machine controls were in 'Pause' mode, to be started any minute. The place had to be considered "temporarily abandoned", to be reopened soon.
