Kino Tapio movie theater, Lapua

Real live pictures

It seemed about 100% certain that no information whatsoever could be digged about this small, old building in Lapua, a small town deep in the Southern Bothnian plains. That went totally wrong, the building has indeed a special history, here in brief:

As strange as it may sound, in the past there have been quite many movie theaters in Lapua. Oldest of them was KIMMO, which started showing live pictures in 1920's. It was located in this two-storey house near the railway station. The house was often called Kivikuppila because it was the first "stone" (brick) building in town and the first user was a canteen.

Name of the theater changed to Kino Tapio, which was kept until late 1960's. Then the theater was closed due to excessively tightened competition between the three movie theaters in town. The building got new use, it housed a bureau for about a decade. Another resource also mentions a police station as a user.

Surprisingly, a movie theater returned to the building in 1980. Name was now Bio Monroe, which is still used today - unlike this old building, which was abandoned in the beginning of 1990's due to a fire. The building stood empty until 2005 and demolition. But Lapua's first movie theater's legacy continues today in new premises, with the old name: Bio Monroe.

dm-lpa_kinotapio05 Next to the parking lot of a grocery store stood a very bad conditioned house. Its appearance resembled a dairy, or at least definitely not a movie theater.
dm-lpa_kinotapio02 Demolition was under way and doors, windows etc. were already missing.
dm-lpa_kinotapio01 Some locals dudes checking out details of their fading environment.
dm-lpa_kinotapio03 At the railway's side it said Bio Monroe, the only literal hint of the house's history that was left.
dm-lpa_kinotapio21 Entering the half-interiors of the house. Feeling was half due to missing windows, which had been quite large.
dm-lpa_kinotapio11 Both floors contained quite many rooms. What they all were needed for remains very unclear.
dm-lpa_kinotapio06 Hervanta Finland's best suburb. Violator agrees, but definitely wants to add that all suburbs suck.
dm-lpa_kinotapio07 Strange..
dm-lpa_kinotapio08 This looked like a modern "art" installation, since the bicycles suit exactly to the text on the wall.
dm-lpa_kinotapio10 Signs of fire, which ended movie activity here were here and there. So it was not typical arsoning of an empty house that caused them.
dm-lpa_kinotapio12 For an unexplained reason, this staircase brought the infamous Cane Hill in mind, even if we've never been there!
dm-lpa_kinotapio15 The actual film hall had burned the baddest.
dm-lpa_kinotapio14 Paint layers of different times all exposed.
dm-lpa_kinotapio17 There were unburned chopwoods in the oven??
dm-lpa_kinotapio18 A little protection from falling.
dm-lpa_kinotapio19 Leaving via the main stairs.
