| Keimola motorsport circuit, Vantaa (Vanda) |
To any Finnish motor sport enthusiast the name Keimola will ring bells big time, despite the fact that the area is nowadays just woods, a big gas station and bypassing highway. In the 1960's and 70's however, the place was known for the motor stadium where they held even F2 races, and lots of other motor sport happenings. For a reason or another, the place was left to decay in the end of 1970's. Today, the place has grown woods all around. Driving the biggest highway of Finland north of Vantaa you would never believe there's a huge deserted motor circuit just about a hundred meters west of the road, it's totally hidden. Most of the buildings have either been bulldozed or swept off by the forces of nature, but the asphalt track is still completely existing.
Like mentioned, the place is very easy to find if you only know where it is. The nearby gas station offers parking lots, from there it's a couple of minutes walking to the area. Since we're in Vantaa, the place actually belongs to the greater Helsinki area, but the urban impact doesn't reach this northern corner of the county. It's more countryside than a city.
