Kairokoski (Kko) train station, Parkano
colourline

Locomotive shed and water tower

Train station of Kairokoski was opened in 1935, when the line between Pori and Parkano was opened for traffic. Formerly the station's name was also quite logically Parkano, but a new railway line from Tampere to Seinäjoki built in early 1970's created a new station they wanted to call Parkano, meaning this station needed a different name.

Log and wood transportation together with passenger traffic have made Kairokoski quite a vivid station in its best times. Those were before 1980's. Considering that technically speaking Kairokoski is still an operating station, it couldn't be much more silent. The station building and cafeteria were rented out in 1987, shortly after traffic to Pori had ended. Warehouses and other structures are rotting without any use. Only very seldom you can see trains.
