Kaatiala feldspar quarry, Kuortane
colourline

Even if not a UE target of the century, the quarry of Kaatiala is worth a visit if you drive in South Bothnia area. 25 years of feldpsar quarrying has created large mountains of small rocks around the area, which contain tens of different types of stones. The quarry itself is fillt with water and therefore it's very popular diving target.

dm-r10-kuo_kaatiala1 View to the quarry is very nice.
dm-r10-kuo_kaatiala3 The quarry is not very deep, divers say it's about 30 meters at deepest, but there are tunnels to check.
dm-r10-kuo_kaatiala2 To make entering the quarry even easier, there are stairs. Note the cross in the forest... Something went wrong once.
dm-r10-kuo_kaatiala4 To reach the place you must drive quite far from big roads. We thought in a location like this, there would be nobody. Little did we know. There were tens, if not hundreds of people. Some of them carried miner's picks. It was soon revealed to us, that some society of stone hobbyists was on a trip, digging the rock mountains for stuff like this in the photo.
