| The Sawmill Of Isnäs, Pernaja |
The sawmill has been about the only industrial site in nearby here in southwest Pernaja. It shutdown in 1987. After that, the place died totally and only homeless people reside the place nowadays. - Nope, the last one of sentences is all but true. The village of Isnäs was recently in telly as an uncommon example of what happens in Finnish countryside nowadays. Much more people would want to move here than what the place can take, despite the place being in the middle of nowhere, with no jobs in nearby and the nearest similac store about 15 km away. Our all-purpose car was being looked upon strangely by the encountered people driving Merc's, Volvos and Celicas here. After industry left the place, Isnäs has apparently started prospering. Strange things happen..
Apart from the rich & infamous, the place has also attracted many artistic people to live here. As an evidence of this, one can find strange creations from the anchoring grounds, like a boat made of old power station items and worker booth with a smile face painted to sides, etc.. Well, what comes to exploration: The place is vivid, totally reused. Not a place to explore, except for the outdoor facilities like the old timberyards, which are worth seeing if you happen to be around.
Probably the coolest thing to see here is the genuine Bolinder steamer totality in the power station, which is restored to the condition where it was about a century ago. It's a museum and open almost daily, but due to the tight time schedule of ours we couldn't wait till next afternoon to see it.
