Haveri's tower

Haveri mine was started in 1773, when they quarried iron from here. About 60 years later the place was shutdown, and nothing happened until the year 1935. Vuoksenniska Oy found more gold and copper deposits from the area and re-opened the mine. So the mine functioned with gold as the major product until the year 1960, with annual production of over 650 lb's of gold and about 150 miners.

After shutdown the mine area was silent for a while, but they developed it to a tourist attraction starting from 1980's. Gold and mining history are used in marketing the cottages and other services. Also the mine area itself is partially open for visitors. You can also go unofficialy yourself..

Municipality of Viljakkala was merged to Ylöjärvi in 2007, so the mine area got a new home city.
