Harjukoski mill, Mikkeli
colourline

The mill in woods of Harjukoski, far from Mikkeli city area is a preserved and nearly ancient traditional mill relic. In summer they arrange some happenings at the place, and the mill is also a kind of museum. They say milling machines are still in recovable state.

dm-mli-harjukoski1 Sheet metal roof doesn't really suite to the log made mill, but it is probably unbeatable in durability. Since the city is seriously debt-ridden it is understandable they don't want to fix places like this every summer.
dm-mli-harjukoski2 Idyllic really.
dm-mli-harjukoski8 Other direction.
dm-mli-harjukoski3 A slightly surprising thing is that the mill actually still exists. Mikkeli-Kangasniemi road is very near and it's easy to get to this very remote and peaceful place. For anybody interested in playing with fire it would be an easy and lowly risky place to hit. Good that no-one has tried it, yet.
dm-mli-harjukoski4 Stream doesn't seem very powerful, but it has given enough power to the mill, which continued to mill for nearly a century before becoming a museum in 1975.
dm-mli-harjukoski5 Builders must have known what they were doing. Founded in the stream, the mill stands as strong and unskewed as ever.
dm-mli-harjukoski6 The area has more old houses. This is apparently the miller's house.
dm-mli-harjukoski7 Warehouses and probably a sauna on the left.
