| Suomen Turkistehdas Oy fur factory, Hämeenlinna |
Fur factory in Sairio, 6th city district of Hämeenlinna was built in 1920's. The history holds a few bankcruptcies and name changes, but refining raw animal furs was always the activity they did here. They've accepted about everything, from nutria to bear furs. Operation in this field continued as one of the few Finnish units in the business past the millennium, despite today's persecution towards furs, but then the factory was forced to leave. Aged building with extensions and old machines was not left unused for long because construction works for new housing area started quite soon.
The traditional looking red brick buildings formed a historic feel to the area together with Sekhu of a plywood factory located just a few hundred meters south, but both these were demolished in 2003. Now that they're gone and no buildings were preserved there will not be much left of it in the new residential area except street names: Turkistie and Vaneritehtaantie.
