OTK industries' power station in Kantola, Hämeenlinna
colourline

r.i.p.

Our first expeditions in Hämeenlinna city's excellent exploration area, Kantola, were performed here. The place was found accidentally, when Violator excursion-visited an axle factory in the city early in 1999. The area has also had other great exploration sites that probably would've remained unknown to us without the first visit to this power plant, so the school trip's importance has just later showed in full.

This plant had powered many nearby factories originally owned by the OTK store. They include a sawmill (by now gone), a wood product (furniture) factory, a milling plant & food factory, and maybe some others. It was abandoned since some point of 1980's till 2003 when the city performed a major anti-ruin operation by clearing off it's two abandoned power stations at almost the same time.

We've got some weird memories of visits to this now vanished place. Once when we were inside the plant, some gang came to the yard to grill sausages and booze. Maybe they had something to do with the car repair shop which was in a wing of the station or then not. Also, when we inspected the high voltage hall, a door opened all of the sudden and two electricians came to us asking about some worker of their firm. The flooded basement was in an ever-ice state, as we heard from some fellow visitors that there was ice there already in late autumn.
