The Sawmill of Attu, Parainen
colourline

The island of Attu was behind two ferry trips and narrow roads, southeast from the central of Parainen, the Finnish limestone capitol. Nowadays there should a road connection there. A medieval manor house on the island has created small industrialism around it, like mines, brick works and a sawmill. Unfortunately, most of the buildings are history but there are some remains. We overnighted on the island during Retki pt. VII and checked out the places. The mines, which we were hopeful to see have been covered by a few tons of concrete, so there's nothing to see. The most interesting thing to find is the power station of the sawmill.

You have to drive some roads marked private to get here. The power house is the last survivor of the production plant once known as the sawmill.
The building is old and apparently nobody's too keen in keeping it in good shape, but most of the windows are not broken. The place is quite hard to find and distant from anywhere which explains much.
Vegetation grows freely everywhere.
The building serves as a boat shelter for somebody. Therefore a big door crosses the wall on this side.
Yes it's more than a century old.
Access forbidden is announced in swedish only.
This very bushy corner is a great hideout for all insects you could ever think of facing in Finland, so we didn't feel like inspecting the ruins very closely. Maybe there would have been some remains of power transmissions, since the sawmill was built straight adjacent to the power station, or something else.
Ruins of the sawmill comprise the foundations of sawing machines and some loose construction material. Everything else has been overridden by woods.
There's quite a heap of bricks here, maybe it was a chimney.
Ruins and late evening sun.
There are also other various remains of the manor house that can be counted as ruins. This village shop hasn't been open for a while.
Group lottery everybody!
These "coffee mill houses" are all abandoned, despite them being very nice looking and even in some kind of shape. Then again, the old residential area of sawmill workers is very vivid in summer time.
